The Church’s Name and Foundation

One of the easiest ways to identify what most of the churches of this world believe is to look at their names. Whether it’s Lutheran, Mormons, Methodist, Baptist, Latter days Saints, they most certainly can trace their roots to a man or an idea apart from Christ. The Church of God has only one beginning and only one founder, Christ! Don’t be fooled by the attachments of the names of Christ or God in their literature or in their building names, they are not the Church Christ founded.

This might sound a little stout for someone to say and maybe even as some would claim, separatist. Yes my friends it is. Christ stern warning is to “Come out of her,” out of the Babylon or confusion. The name of God’s one true Church is mentioned in the bible. Did you know that? Acts 7:38 “This is He that was in the church in the wilderness…..” note that the Church was foreshadowed from ancient times to be revealed and established by Christ in God! Mathew 16:18 “And I say unto thee, that thou art Peter and upon this rock (God the Father) I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Were you taught that the church was built upon God? Or were you taught something else? Well my friends The Church of God is built upon God! Corinthians 1:18 “And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning the first born from the dead; that in all things he might have the pre-eminence.” Just like in a natural family you have first born, second, third, ect.

The Church (Family) of God is no different. I Corinthians 11:3 “But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ….. And the head of Christ is God.” God is the head of Christ and He (Christ) said that He would build His church on God the head of all. Acts 20:28 “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, were the which the Holy Ghost (Spirit) hath made you overseers, to feed the “Church of God”, which He hath purchased with His own blood.” Here again it clearly states that the church belongs to Christ. I Corinthians 1:2 “Unto the Church of God which is at Corinth.” Galatians 1:13 “For ye have heard of my conversation on time past in the Jews religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the Church of God, and wasted it.” Paul testifies that he knew of this body of believers, again he used the people name Church of God. 1 Corinthians 15:9 “For I am the least of the apostles, that I’m not meet to be called an apostle, because, I persecuted the Church of God.” Again the name of this little persecuted group is clear. I Thessalonians 2:14 “For ye brethren, became followers of the Church of God which is in Judea, are in Christ Jesus.”

Again the followers of Jesus Christ belonged to the Church of God! I Timothy 3:5 “For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take love of the Church of God?” I Timothy 3:15 “……which is the Church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” In the scriptures we have seen that in numerous places the bible referred to the body of believers as the Church of God. This is not just a coincidental occurrence but a very outstanding fact. So by what name is your church called? When one considers all the other fact set forth so far, it’s quite easy to see that this demands your immediate attention.
